"Embroidery Spring Sword 2": Asura Battlefield, Maya Shakes the Tree

[Shanghai literature and art review special project fund special publication]

In Pu Songling’s "Strange Stories from Liaozhai", there is a short story called "Promoting Weaving", which is meaningful and ironic.

The story was about during the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Xuande liked to watch crickets fight. As the saying goes, "what is good on the top is very good on the bottom". For a while, the top and bottom were trying to find crickets, and finally the disaster fell on a person named Cheng.

In order to find a good cricket to offer, Fame was beaten to pieces, and his son committed suicide by jumping into a well. Finally, he found a cricket that could defeat a rooster, and Fame’s family was thus exchanged for prosperity and wealth.

As Pu Songling explained the story, "Therefore, every step of the Son of Heaven is related to the lives of the people and cannot be ignored."

"Embroidered Spring Knife: Asura Battlefield" (hereinafter referred to as "Embroidered Spring Knife 2") actually tells the story of such a fighting rooster. In the film, Shen Lian, played by Zhang Zhen, is thoughtful about a painting of a bug fighting a rooster, and in the character poster, Shen Lian is behind a cricket. (Note: The film says that the painting is a grasshopper. But the aggressive insect is a cricket, not a grasshopper…)

"Embroidery Spring Knife 2" was originally scheduled to be released in August, but was later moved to July 19.

Regardless of whether there is a cricket that can fight down a rooster, the world is often "a bear shakes a big tree, ridiculously overconfident".

First, the big trees

The story of "Embroidery Spring Blade 2" begins with an unofficial history. In "Jiashen Dynasty Events" there is an article "Wanzhong Stab Ship": "On May 18, the fifth year of the Xi Temple, on the altar of sacrifice to Fangze, that is, Xingxi Garden, I rode a boat with Baba, the upper body was from the stab boat, and an inner minister accompanied it, rippling with the waves, Fang looked at each other and laughed, as if he had ascended to immortality, suddenly the wind was steep, the boat was covered, and the upper body and the two inner ministers fell to the bottom of the water, and the two inner ministers on both sides exclaimed in shock, and the followers were all colorless. The inner official Tan Jing rushed into the water in a hurry, lost the emperor and came out, the second minister has died in the

According to the inference, maybe the Emperor of Heaven Awakening died because of this accident and falling into the water. If this inference holds true, then an interesting thing is that there were two emperors in the Ming Dynasty who died because of falling into the water. At the same time, neither of them had any children, so the inheritors were their younger brothers.

The death of Zhengde triggered a great ceremony in the Jiajing Dynasty, which directly affected the career of Jiajing for decades. The political landscape of the Ming Dynasty changed from then on, and civil officials began to officially enter the stage and become important figures.

The death of the apocalypse brought Chongzhen, "my brother is Yao Shun", a headstrong emperor who made repeated mistakes in the face of wars in the northwest and northeast, and finally lost the city of Beijing in his hands.

Of course, the question of who killed the Ming Dynasty is divided, and there is no conclusion so far. In the first part of "Embroidery Spring Knife", the answer is also given. The second part is not about the end of Ming Dynasty politics, but the political turmoil.

The background of the second part is that the Emperor of the Apocalypse fell into the water, which may be just a coincidence in history, but the story begins with this unofficial history and opens a conspiracy theory.

Analyze the situation at that time. Five years after the apocalypse, the emasculate arrested Yang Lian for taking bribes of 20,000 taels and let him die in prison. The day before, Zuo Guangdou had died. Subsequently, Yuan Huazhong, Wei Dazhong, Zhou Chaorui, Gu Dazhang and other six people were martyred, and the Donglin Party was suppressed by the emasculate. Six years after the apocalypse, Wei Zhongxian compiled the "Three Dynasties" and characterized the Donglin Party members as anti-party. From then on, Wei Zhongxian’s family was dominant and no one could control them.

However, Wei Zhongxian was a eunuch. In that era, although future generations often said that Wei Zhongxian wanted to usurp the throne, Wei Zhongxian himself must have known that he did not have the legitimacy to be an emperor. All his power came from the emperor himself rather than the system.

And history also proves this point. After Emperor Chongzhen came to power, he quickly eradicated Wei Zhongxian’s power. Such a story is told in the first part of "Embroidery Spring Knife".

So in such a time when Wei Zhongxian’s family was dominant, "Embroidery Spring Knife 2" launched a conspiracy theory, designing the apocalypse into the water as a conspiracy, a big conspiracy to change the dynasty.

Only Zhu Youxiao, Wei Zhongxian and Zhu Youjian were qualified to appear on the stage. As for Xu Xianchun beside Wei Zhongxian and Lu Wenzhao beside Zhu Youjian, they could only stand on the edge of the stage, thinking that they could appear on the stage.

Therefore, unlike Wei Zhongxian, who went crazy after losing power in the first "Embroidery Spring Knife", Wei Zhongxian here has always been the power-oriented and complacent No. 1 in the world. In this film, he is still played by Jin Shijie, but because the role does not have as many thoughts and changes as in the first one, he has lost his unique charm.

Jin Shijie plays Wei Zhongxian

The opposite is Zhu Youjian. In this film, Zhu Youjian is just the younger brother of the apocalypse, Xin Wang. The young Xin Wang is played by the young actor Liu Duanduan. Liu Duanduan has starred in many high-quality plays such as "Escort", "Hey, Old Man" and "Young Marshal". Now he plays Zhu Youjian, which gives him a space to play – Zhu Youjian’s role in this film is not much, probably only three scenes, but each time there are different changes. One is the mastermind behind the strategy, the other is the weak and cowardly letter king who is afraid of death, and the other is the calm emperor Chongzhen.

Although there is a gap between such Zhu Youjian and the headstrong, bloody but desperate image of Chongzhen in history, it is deviated from the historical point of view, but in this film, as a letter king who only appeared a few times, he can stand as an artistic image in this film, and Liu Duanduan’s performance can also support such a three-time change of letter king – it can even be said that this actor is the biggest surprise in this film.

Faced with such a Zhu Youjian, Wei Zhongxian finally made mistakes and made mistakes step by step. Every step was buried by Zhu Youjian and then recruited, and finally failed miserably. On the poster of "Embroidery Spring Blade 2", Wei Zhongxian is represented by a yellow bird, while the picture behind Zhu Youjian is a snake.

The so-called "Mantis catches cicadas, the yellow sparrow is behind", Wei Zhongxian thought he was the last yellow sparrow, but what he never thought was that behind him, there was a snake staring at him.

In the familiar middle school text "The Tombstone of the Five", there is such a sentence: "The castral is also afraid of righteousness, and it is difficult to make a sudden plan. When the saint comes out, he will throw himself into the road: it can be said that it is not the power of the five!" The "castral" here is Wei Zhongxian, and the "saint" is Zhu Youjian.

The author of this article is Zhang Pu, the founder of Fushe, so this article discusses Wei Zhongxian and Emperor Chongzhen from the standpoint of the Donglin Party. However, after hundreds of years, people began to have different attitudes towards the Eunuch Party and the Donglin Party, and the different historical faces of the two factions were revealed from various historical materials. The historians also began to argue endlessly, which directly affected the film and television works.

In Hu Jinquan’s movie "Chivalrous Girl", there is a clear distinction between good and evil. The protagonist, Gu Shengzhai, and Yang Huizhen, the daughter of Yang Lian, together fought off Ouyang Nian, a thousand households in the East Factory, and Xu Xianchun, the president of Jinyiwei North Town. In that movie, the Donglin party members were completely persecuted and heroic and unyielding people, while the emasculated party members were the unyielding evildoers.

In the "Embroidery Spring Knife", the situation began to shift slightly.

In "Embroidery Spring Blade 2", they did not show that Donglin Party members and Zhu Youjian were completely good people. Because the biggest conspiracy in the whole film was started by them, which caused a series of things, and these people would also ignore the lives of the little people, and anyone could sacrifice when necessary, as long as it was for "righteousness".

From here, we can see that "Embroidery Spring Knife 2" did not deliberately express the political spectrum, nor did it stand between the emasculation and the Donglin Party. Therefore, Shen Lian is the first male protagonist of this series.

Second, the mayfly

Since the poster represented by Wei Zhongxian is the oriole, mantises and cicadas will naturally appear in this food chain.

Let’s talk about Shen Lian first, Shen Lian’s identity setting is very interesting. Only with this setting can he express the theme of the story that the main creator wants to express, that is, the ambition of the movie must be realized through such a character.

This is a historical film.

In the days of fierce partisanship in the late Ming Dynasty, the Donglin Party first prevailed, and the parties of Zhejiang, Qi, Chu, Xuan and Kun and the Donglin Party criticized each other. Later, during the Apocalypse period, the eunuchs led by Wei Zhongxian cleared all obstacles and stood at the top of the food chain. Then, during the Chongzhen period, the Donglin Party rose again, followed by the struggle between the Donglin Party, the Fushe Party and the remnants of the eunuchs during the Hongguang period, until the Wu-Chu partisanship in the final Yongli period. Some people say that it is not unreasonable for the Ming Dynasty to die in the partisanship. Even Huang Zongxi, a great scholar, would inevitably write such a clear-cut and emotional work on partisanship as "Records of Existence and Discernment".

Therefore, in order to truthfully demonstrate the partisan struggles of that era, it is necessary to choose an outsider’s perspective.

Zhang Zhen plays Shen Lian

Shen Lian is such an outsider. Whether it is the first or the second film, he is a small person who walks between various parties. In the first film, he is first sent by Zhao Jingzhong played by Nie Yuan, and then by Han Kuang (a member of the Donglin Party) played by Zhao Lixin. In this film, he is inadvertently involved in a shocking case, and then used by both sides. Both sides want to step on him as a stepping stone and climb to a higher position.

Therefore, only in this perspective can the audience see the essence of the struggle.

At the same time, this is still a martial arts movie.

In the "Chivalrous Girl" mentioned above, the heroes are in the rivers and lakes, and they are chivalrous and always have a hard time with the "eagle and dog" in the court; in "Three Heroes and Five Righteousness", the heroes are in the temple, such as Nan Xia Zhan Zhao, who was named "Imperial Cat" by the emperor and entered the official orthodox discourse system.

When choosing a faction, the problem is always not true. "Embroidery Spring Blade" is a martial arts story with a historical theme, so if the protagonist is a person in the rivers and lakes, he can only watch the fire from the shore, and if he is in the temple, it is easy to "not know the true face of Mount Lu, only because he is in this mountain".

But Shen Lian was different. He was an ordinary person who wandered between rivers and lakes and temples. Although he was a well-dressed guard, his actions were not entirely based on obeying orders.

Therefore, in this perspective, as a person in a gray area, he has the potential to become a protagonist.

This was the reason why the main creator chose Shen Lian, and it was also Shen Lian’s tragedy. Because Shen Lian was always a chess piece and a mayfly. Anyone could kill him, and no one wanted to kill him.

From a thematic point of view, this was the same as the first one. In Embroidery Spring Blade 2, Shen Lian was in troubled times and couldn’t help himself. He was asked to set fire to the file warehouse, was asked to take the "Treasure Ship Supervision Minutes" in exchange for glory and wealth, and was asked… All of this was helplessly moved by the actions of others, just because he was moved by compassion at the beginning.

Because Shen Lian’s compassion saved a human performers of virtual idols, he was forced to be involved in all the troubles and became everyone’s pawn. Of course, it is not only Zhu Youjian and Wei Zhongxian who use Shen Lian as pawns (even the two of them have not looked at Shen Lian in the eye), but also Lu Wenzhao and Pei Lun who think they are chess players.

Lu Wenzhao and Wei Zhongxian

Lu Wenzhao is played by Zhang Yi, who is a good actor. As his first costume performance, his performance this time is not bad, and the acting is quite good, but it can be seen from his portrayal of Lu Wenzhao’s role that he rarely shoots costume films. Because his style of reading lines and his limbs are relatively modern, if it is a costume stage drama, he may be more suitable, but in film and television works, his style is a bit abrupt.

He thought he would be the victorious chess player, but he didn’t expect that he would still be the meat on the chopping board, at the mercy of others.

The same goes for Pei Lun, played by Lei Jiayin. This year is a bumper year for Lei Jiayin. He just played Lu Zhaopeng in the "White Deer Plain", and then starred in the hit drama "The First Half of My Life". Then he played a very likable (no less than Ding Xiu in the first) character Pei Lun in "Embroidery Spring Knife 2".

Pei Lun’s character poster is a spider, which is even more interesting. He thinks he can network everything and become the final big winner, but he doesn’t know that he is still a bug, no matter how powerful he is in the food chain, he can’t beat the yellow bird, let alone… what about snakes?

In the first one, there were only a series of characters. Everyone knew their position very well, but these two were not clear about their position. They thought they would be chess players, but in fact, they were still the same chess pieces, but they were responsible for eating the other pieces.

In short, they were all mayflies. Wanting to climb up and shake the big tree was laughable.

This was the theme of Embroidery Blade of Spring, and it was also the common theme of the first and second installments. If one had to rate it, then the second installment might be slightly lower than the first, because the main creator did not go deeper into the discussion, but replicated the depths that could be dug on the basis of the first installment, and the protagonist was also forced to get involved, the story changed, and the core remained the same.

In addition, there are some logical problems in this film. For example, Zhu Youjian’s character in history, such as why the people of Dongchang did not take the "Minutes of Treasure Ship Supervision" in advance, such as why did they not escape together when they escaped to the bridge and then cut the bridge? Some such problems show that "Embroidery Spring Blade 2" is not perfect, there are still many logical vulnerabilities, and the story turns in many places are slightly deliberate, but this is still flawed. The martial arts drama is more exciting than the first one, and the core can still exude despair and hope. From this point of view, this movie is quite good, and the success of two consecutive films is enough to make the audience look forward to whether the third film can show greater ambition.

Back to compassion above. Yes, what can compassion change? The apocalypse is still dead, Zhu Youjian is still on the throne, Wei Zhongxian is still notorious, and…

And the Ming Dynasty eventually died.

No matter whether there was Shen Lian in history, whether there was Shen Lian to catch Beizhai, or whether there was Shen Lian’s compassion at the moment of catching Beizhai, the final result did not change. All historical trends were not determined by Shen Lian, he was just a small person.

But remember, compassion at least changed Hokusai’s fate.

Looking back on the screen showdown of the "two great singers" in the music industry from "Undercover Superstar"

The new film, directed by Gu Dezhao and starring Eason Chan and Li Ronghao, will be officially released on January 12. For many viewers, this is undoubtedly a surprise collaboration, because this is the first collaboration between "God of Songs" Eason Chan and "King of Songs" Li Ronghao. Originally, the audience had already heard ear oil when listening to their songs, and this time they have to act together, which can be called welfare!

In fact, it is by no means the first time in our memory that people in the music industry have collaborated on movies at the level of singers. Especially since the 1980s, such works have been "countless" and have frequently produced classics. So before looking forward to the debut of Eason Chan and Li Ronghao, two "singers", we might as well take a look at how many music superstars have collaborated on the screen along the way.

The 1980s: a hundred flowers bloom

In the peak era of the Hong Kong music scene, whether it was the trend of "Tan Zhang’s competition for hegemony", or the far-reaching "Hong Kong Song God", as well as the popular "Song Yin" and "Idol Sect", as long as the film was made, it was often a box office guarantee + topic responsibility, and it was also a strength to tell the audience that the real "Wang Jianwang" should sing and shadow!

1. Xu Guanjie vs Leslie Cheung

"New Best Partner" & "Flower Field Wedding"

When it comes to the collaboration between "Song God" and "Brother", the two not only have a classic hit song like "Silence is Gold" in the music world, but also made two appearances in the film industry during the Spring Festival. In 1989’s "New Best Partner", the two played two generations of "Best Partner" members, who changed from "opponent" to "friend" due to a terracotta warrior theft case, and finally fought against the big boss together. The film is not only Xu Guanjie’s first starring work after recovering from mountain sickness, but also Zhang Guorong’s last starring work before quitting the music world. Therefore, in addition to showing their skills, the two also sang the theme song "I Have Never Been Surprised", which is of great significance.

Four years later (1993), Xu Guanjie completed his farewell concert in the music world, and retired with honor after filming the last two films with Huang Baiming; at the same time, Leslie Cheung officially signed with Huang Baiming’s newly established "Oriental Film Company", which promoted the cooperation of another New Year’s movie "Flower Field Wedding". In the film, the two played "Little Bawang Zhou Tong" and "Magic Gao Baifei" respectively, and tried their skills as soon as they appeared. Later, Xu Guanjie also "kissed" Zhang Guorong, which can be said to be another classic cooperation since the two "honorably retired from Huixing", showing the tacit understanding and charm of "Wang Jianwang"!

2. Alan Tam vs Andy Lau

"Jianghu Love" & "Dragon Family" & "Supreme" & "Rich Corps" & "Supreme Plan Champion" & "Shocking 12 Hours"

One was the most popular male singer in the Hong Kong music scene in the 1980s, and the other was the most representative Tianwang in the Hong Kong music scene in the 1990s. Alan Tam and Andy Lau’s cooperation began as early as 1987, thanks to the fact that both of them were artists under the "Arts Group" (founded by Alan Tam’s relative Cheung Kwok-zhong) at that time. To paraphrase the gossip, when Andy Lau was banned by TVB, he tried to sell tickets to Alan Tam’s concert. Tan once "persuaded" Andy Lau to concentrate on being an actor and not to be a singer: "You are not so good at singing… unless you work very hard." Andy’s reply was: "You believe me, I will definitely do it, I will work very hard." Finally, the dream of Tianwang was realized.

"The Supreme Champion"

Going back to the movies, "Principal" and "Andy" have collaborated on 6 or 7 films, playing friends who share the same hardships and die together: sometimes the principal saves Andy ("Jianghu Love"), sometimes Andy "dies" for the principal ("Supreme"), sometimes they show their fists together ("Dragon Family", "Rich Corps"), sometimes they win and lose together at the card table ("Supreme Count Champion"), and sometimes they even face a hail of bullets overseas ("Shocking 12 Hours"), which can be described as colorful.

The Supreme.

Moreover, what these films have in common is that the box office is very good. In 1989, "Supreme" ranked fifth among the top ten best-selling films in Hong Kong that year (23 million Hong Kong dollars), and brought about the "gambling film" boom in the film industry – in other words, because of the success of the film, the later "God of Gamblers", so this pair of "Wang Jianwang" also gave birth to classics.

"The Rich Corps"

By the way, in 1990, the two were also selected as two of the five male stars of "Hong Kong’s top ten beautiful people" (the other three were Chow Yun-fat, Cheung Guorong and Chan Baiqiang). Just by looking at the appearance, you can know what is called Song Ying Yan Sanqi.

"Jianghu Love"

3. Alan Tam VS Lin Zixiang

Gong Xi Fa Cai.

Many people may not have imagined that the first film collaboration between "The King of Singers" and "Ge Yin" in the Hong Kong music industry was also a comedy released during the Spring Festival, and with the fame of the two at that time, this "Gong Xi Fa Cai" also entered the 1985 Hong Kong Top Ten Movies.

Even if they only talk about the music world, the two have no shortage of classic collaborations, such as co-hosting TV shows in the late 1970s, filming MV for Teresa Teng in the early 1980s, and singing a scene of "Ten Ten Inch" on the top ten hit songs in 1985, which is one of the classic scenes in the history of Hong Kong pop music!

In this "Gong Xi Fa Cai", the two play "Tianwai Cai Xian" and "unscrupulous profiteer" respectively, but the principal "tricked" Ah Lam – let him sing a big play and rob a bank, and Ah Lam was sent to a neurological hospital, which made people laugh. So far, the two have only collaborated on this drama, which is really not enjoyable enough for the audience.

4. Andy Lau VS Lin Zixiang

"The Best Boyfriend"

When it comes to Lin Zixiang’s most promising newcomer in the 1980s, Andy Lau bears the brunt, and can even be said to be his noble person. At the beginning of Andy’s debut, he was supported by Lin Zixiang, especially during the performance of Andy’s debut novel "Joining the Sea", Lin Zixiang often sang with him on the spot and encouraged him to develop into a singer. Seven years after "Joining the Sea", when the two collaborated on "Best Boyfriend", Andy was already a professional singer with several albums, which shows Lin Zixiang’s precise vision.

5. Leslie Cheung VS Chen Baiqiang

"Cheers" & "Unemployed" & "Merry Christmas"

In the Hong Kong music scene in the 1980s, Chan Pak-keung could be said to be the first true "idol singer", and from 1981 to 1983, he became the most popular male singer in Hong Kong, surpassing Xu Guanjie, Tam Elin, Lin Zixiang, etc. Even 25 years after his death, his "I Just Like You" and "What Do I Want in Life" are still popular Cantonese songs sung in the streets. And one of his best friends at the beginning of his debut was of course "brother" Cheung Kwok Wing. On the one hand, the two were artists under the "Gold Manager" Tam Kwok-kee at that time. On the other hand, the two collaborated on films such as "Cheers" and "Unemployed". On the other hand, they were also very popular. The former box office was closer to 3 million Hong Kong dollars, breaking the box office record of Hong Kong-made youth films.

In these two works, the two superstars who were in the era of "Little Fresh Meat" played each other’s classmates, "Applause" had an extra layer of "opponent" relationship (singing in the music competition), and Leslie Cheung’s "rebellion" and Chen Baiqiang’s "well-behaved" characters were also one of the most classic memories of Hong Kong audiences at that time. But perhaps "drama is like life". After filming "Unemployed Students", both of them refused to cooperate with each other in films, just like "A Bao" and "Young Master" in the film parted ways.

In 1984, the two once again "cooperation" "Merry Christmas", the film box office as high as 25 million Hong Kong dollars, not only was the year’s top ten hit film runner-up, so far is still the Hong Kong ten highest-viewed film seventh (about 2.31 million people), if on time under the Hong Kong average ticket price, the box office has exceeded 100 million Hong Kong dollars! But according to director Gao Zhisen recall, the two completely do not want to see each other in the shooting scene, even the last scene to use a double (although the brother appeared back)! But at the same time, the two people do not mind "Wang Jianwang" in the music industry, 1985 brother first concert, Chen Baiqiang system update as a guest and chorus "Cheers", it can be seen that the feelings are still there.

Now that the two kings of the music world have passed away, it is even more heartening to revisit the classic movies.

6. Leslie Cheung VS Andy Lau

"The True Story of Ah Fei" & "New Shanghai Beach"

If the Hong Kong entertainment industry is selected as "the best-looking male star in history", Leslie Cheung and Andy Lau will definitely be selected. Since they are not from the same era, they have little intersection in the music industry. However, when Andy Tsai’s music industry rose in 1990, the two still achieved their first "Wang Jianwang" with a "The True Story of Ah Fei". Watching the opposite play of the two is a typical portrayal of "acting skills + face value".

Six years later, the two of them collaborated on "New Shanghai Beach" again, and the two legendary images of "Xu Wenqiang" and "Ding Li" were also not incompatible. Therefore, although brother and Andy did not cooperate much, they finally got along well every time.

7. Leslie Cheung vs Jacky Cheung

The True Story of Ah Fei & Eastern Heretic and Western Poison

As early as the mid-1980s, although Jacky Cheung did not reach the level of "song god", he was already recognized as a "rising star" in the music industry. Later, he collaborated with his brother’s former manager Chen Shufen, which is also a portrayal of the fate of the two in the entertainment industry.

In the 1980s, although his brother and Jacky Cheung had an appointment to cooperate, they had different "levels" and did not go deep. In 1990, his brother quit the music scene, and the two finally "saw the king" in "The True Story of Ah Fei", but in terms of aura, Jacky Cheung was still a "little brother" in front of his brother at that time.

Four years later, the two collaborated on "Eastern Heretic Western Poison", which is summarized in one sentence: So you are Ouyang Feng and Hong Qigong like this! And in this play, my brother also became Jacky Cheung’s "agent".

The 1990s: The Four Heavenly Kings

If the 1980s was the peak of Hong Kong pop music, then the 1990s was the peak of entertainment superstars. During those 10 years, the legendary "Four Heavenly Kings" ruled the entire music scene, and the "Most Popular Male Singer" must have been produced among the four. The top ten Chinese/song hits accounted for half or even two-thirds, and the "Golden Melody Award" and "Sales Champion" could not escape their palms. In addition, they had countless fans on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and three places. Today, no one can replicate this glory that can rise to the level of "cultural influence"!

Of course, Hong Kong’s entertainment industry is characterized by "singing and acting". Naturally, the Four Heavenly Kings have been filming a lot (Andy Lau is particularly productive), and audiences have been expecting the four to co-star in a film, but it has not really been realized so far ("The Banquet of the Rich" is not included). So how many times have the four played opposite each other?

1. Andy Lau vs Jacky Cheung

"Mong Kok Carmen" & "Super School Fighter" & "Jianghu" &

Among the Four Heavenly Kings, Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung’s film collaboration lasted from the 1980s to 2016, which can be described as a "long love". Although in the music industry, the two "Wang can’t see the king" (Jacky Cheung admits that there is a "competitive mentality" with Andy Lau, and it is not common for the two to perform alone in the 1990s, and they will join the other two heavenly kings), the two often play "good brothers" in the film. The first is "Mong Kok Carmen", which is not only Wong Kar-wai’s directorial debut, but also the acting skills of the two heavenly kings are more recognized. Jacky Cheung also won the Academy Award for "Best Supporting Actor", which is still one of the masterpieces of the two’s film careers today.

In the 1990s "Super School Overlord", the two even performed "eating shoes" and "eating the refrigerator" stunts!

In 2004’s "Jianghu", the two continued the "boss" and "younger brother" images of "Carmen Mong Kok", and their aura was equal.

In 2016’s "Macao 3", although the two of them played very little (only playing table tennis and taking a group photo), it was enough to arouse the audience’s feelings for the "Four Heavenly Kings". Now it seems that Andy Lau and Jacky Cheung should belong to the "acting responsibility" of the "Four Heavenly Kings".

2. Andy Lau VS Guo Fucheng

"Nine One Condor Heroes" & "five hundred million Inspector Lei Luo Biography 2: Father and Son Feud" & "Machine Boy True and False Veyron" &

In contrast, the films that Andy worked with Chengcheng are more in line with the concept of "face value responsibility". In 1991, Andy established the "Sky Screen Film Company" and started filming the "September 1st Condor Heroes". At that time, Guo Fucheng was still not popular in Hong Kong, but Andy admired him very much, so he invited him to play the villain "Silver Fox" in the film. As a result, the two handsome guys had a lot of sparks. In addition to the box office hit, Chengcheng also nominated for the "Best Supporting Actor" at the Academy Awards, which can be described as a win-win situation.

One of the most impressive rivalry scenes is the "love affair" between the two heavenly kings.

In "five hundred million Inspector Leiluo Biography 2: Father and Son Feud", the two finally turned "enemy" into "pro", playing a father and son who went from "confrontation" to "understanding". This is the only time the two have performed a gunfight scene together so far. Of course, whether we let Chengcheng play Andy’s "son" or Andy plays "old man" in front of Chengcheng, maybe we will never see it again.

In 1992, Andy’s "Tianmu" company produced another "The True and False Dragon of the Machine Boy" and played the "retarded" and "genius" gang boss, and Chengcheng played his bodyguard. In this film, Chengcheng rarely appeared without the classic "Guo Fucheng Head" look. Instead, he used hair wax to comb into the "back head", but he was still equally handsome. After the cooperation of the three plays, Chengcheng’s character setting is relatively "cool" and even "angry youth", which is in sharp contrast to Andy’s comedy performances in "The Nine-Day Condor Heroes" and "The True and False Dragon of the Machine Boy".

Later, Chengcheng became one of the "Four Heavenly Kings", and the film cooperation with Andy was suspended. Of course, there were many performances in the music world at that time (Chengcheng was also a guest at Andy’s concert in 1994). It was not until 2012 that the two people jointly starred in "Chills", which "echoed" 19 years ago (1993) "Super School Overlord". The former Chengcheng starred in a cameo of Andy and the latter played a cameo of Chengcheng. But at this time, the roles played by the two who have become film giants are not what they used to be: a deputy commissioner of police, a director of security, and a powerful aura.

3. Andy Lau PK Dawn

"Dragons" & "Infernal Affairs 3: Ultimate Infernal"

Among the four heavenly kings, Andy Lau and Guo Fucheng may be "the king can’t see the king" because of their titles, but their feelings should have no impact. Although they have a "competitive" mentality with Jacky Cheung, they are not antagonistic in their relationship. But facing Dawn, they became recognized as "old enemies in the music world" at that time. Not only was PK powerful in the awards, but there were also reports of "disputes" and "fights" between the two factions of fans, so the two rarely appeared at the same time without the other two heavenly kings. It was not until 2010 that Andy’s concert, when Dawn appeared as a guest, cried and said that "after walking all the way, I realized that everyone was actually friends", and the public opinion really regarded it as "eliminating enmity".

In the 1990s, the two of them only co-starred in one "Dragon Teng Four Seas", but there were only two opposite scenes, which added up to less than 5 minutes. It can be seen that "cooperation" is quite taboo.

It was not until 10 years later that the two really had a rival play in "Infernal Affairs 3: The Ultimate Infernal". In fact, the conflict between Liu Jianming and Yang Jinrong was also one of the main lines of the third film, which was heavier than the one with Chen Yongren, and both the performance and the gimmick fully satisfied the audience. However, the gossip behind it was still boiling – it was rumored that Liming learned that Andy Lau’s salary was higher than his own, and he was so angry that he refused to take the role for a while. It can be seen that as long as the two cooperate, there will be turmoil, and it is better to act together less.

4. Jacky Cheung vs Dawn

"The Moon Shines on the East" & "Monster Beast City"

Although Liming minds co-starring with Andy Lau in a movie, he does not mind co-starring with Jacky Cheung. The first is that both of them are artists under "Polygold"; the second two have different routes (Jacky Cheung plays the main song, and Liming highlights the "Little Fresh Meat" attribute), so it will not be embarrassing or embarrassing to play opposite scenes.

But it was no coincidence that Andy Lau and Guo Fucheng had to "fight" for the first time in a rival play, and Jacky Cheung and Liming were no exception: for the first time, they collaborated on "The Moon Shines on the East of Jiandong" (in 1992, there was no "Four Heavenly Kings" at that time, but Jacky Cheung and Liming had already called Liu Dehua the "Three Musketeers"). In the climax scene, the two fisted and splashed with blood, and the purpose was only for one woman (Guan Zhilin). Speaking of which, this is the only time in the film where the Four Heavenly Kings cooperate with each other to fight for "love".

Of course, in terms of acting skills, Jacky Cheung’s performance in the film is still better than Dawn’s, especially the "prince" who has gone mad at the end to fulfill his lover and rival in love and commit suicide in the sea. It can be regarded as the most tragic scene in the film where the four heavenly kings cooperate with each other.

In the second "Monster Beast City", the two "turn enemies into friends" and play the colleagues of the SWAT team who capture monsters. But this time it is Tsui Hark who collaborates with them, so the friendship between the two in the film is diluted by each other’s love scenes with Li Jiaxin and Li Ruotong. So after watching the movie, we can remember that the two "Li Meimei" are very charming, but we don’t quite remember the spark of the rival scenes of the two heavenly kings. Maybe they both appeared in science fiction films as "Wenqing", which is a bit impressive, right?

Easter Egg: Andy Lau VS Jacky Cheung VS Guo Fucheng: "Super School Overlord"

1993 was the year when the "Four Heavenly Kings" were the most popular, and both competition and even grudges officially broke out in this year, so it was a fantasy that the four of them could cooperate in a movie! But Wang Jing still tried his best to pull three of the Heavenly Kings (although Guo Fucheng was only willing to make cameos) and became the biggest gimmick of the play. As long as they could stand together, the audience would watch it. Therefore, "Super School Overlord" also took more than 17 million at the box office as a bad movie, which is quite rare.

Of course, seeing this scene, many viewers will still consciously make up Ren Dahua’s "brain" as Dawn, and this drama has become the only "opponent drama" between Jacky Cheung and Guo Fucheng so far.

New Century: Unique

After the "Four Heavenly Kings" ended, the first "Heavenly Kings" to become popular in the Hong Kong music scene were undoubtedly Nicholas Tse and Eason Chan. Nicholas Tse became red to purple around 2000, such as "Love Because of Love", "Must Go", "Thank You for Your Love 1999" and other golden songs, which became the most classic memories of young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait; Eason Chan gradually rose after 2001. "Ten Years" and "Next Year Today" became the golden songs of "Bad Street" in both the mainland and Hong Kong, and they are still well-deserved superstars today. In short, during the peak period of this "girlfriends", their music influence can be described as "one ride on the dust"!

Of course, they have also cooperated with the heavenly kings in the film industry to see who they are.

1. Nicholas Tse VS Xu Guanjie

"The Big Winner."

This is the last film that Xu Guanjie has starred in so far. Although it is not a match for the protagonist Nicholas Tse, it is a collaboration that spans 30 years of Hong Kong pop music. What’s more, one is still retiring, and the other is at the peak, which is another level of "Wang Jianwang".

2. Nicholas Tse VS Wu Bai

"Countercurrent."

Since they are both good at playing rock and roll, Nicholas Tse and Wu Bai must be very compatible both inside and outside the play. Of course, the first cooperation also needs to be "fierce", so there is this "Downstream". The two in the film are not only very cool in appearance, but also quite good in skills. Coupled with a good reputation, on the one hand, more people have invited Wu Bai to act, and on the other hand, Nicholas Tse has further opened up his style and market as an "action actor".

3. Nicholas Tse VS Andy Lau

The New Shaolin Temple.

In 2011, Nicholas Tse collaborated with Andy Lau for the first time in "New Shaolin Temple", even if he was willing to play the villain, but in the end the film also got him nominated for the Academy Award for "Best Supporting Actor". As the king of two generations, Andy Tse made more audiences know him by inviting Nicholas Tse as a concert guest, so Nicholas Tse has always been grateful to Andy, and this time "Wang Jianwang" also showed their acting skills.

4. Nicholas Tse VS Jay Chou

"The War Against Us"

In the new century, the two kings of Hong Kong and Taiwan "saw the king" for the first time, just like the cooperation between Nicholas Tse and Wu Bai in "Downstream", they must be "fierce" to attract the audience, not to mention that the two are such "unique" superstars, how can they not attract the audience’s attention?

In this collaboration, the two followed the classic "Brothers + Two Heroes" model of Hong Kong films, from Malaysia to helicopters and then to the sea ship. How popular can they be? Even if they don’t talk about their acting skills, they are full of gimmicks.

5. Eason Chan VS Guo Fucheng

"Charge"

In fact, Eason Chan cooperated with the king of music earlier than Nicholas Tse, and the first time was this "Charge". The two generations of kings co-starred in the duo, both gunfight and funny, with their own points of view. More importantly, through participating in different types of works, Eason Chan allowed more audiences to see his malleability in performance.

6. Eason Chan vs Andy Lau

"Brothers of Life and Death"

The former "Wireless Five Tigers" could not make up for Tony Leung, but with Eason Chan, the king of heaven, he did not lose. Although Eason Chan’s acting skills are still young in front of the other four tigers, he is also better at never having stage fright when performing such a serious police and bandit theme, and he has handled the role well, which shows that he is an actor himself. And the film is also very addictive to coreference with Andy Wai pistol, and the theme song "Brothers" co-written by the two (composed by Eason Chan and written by Andy Lau) is equally classic.

7. Eason Chan vs Lin Zixiang

"Wild Dog"

As a "hidden song", Lin Zixiang, who has faded out of the film industry after the new century, has also worked with Eason Chan. In fact, since Eason Chan’s debut, Lin Zixiang has been very optimistic about him. In addition to singing "Ten Inch" with him in concerts, he has also designated him to cover his classic song "Digital Life", which shows the fate of the two generations of "Heavenly Kings". The two are rare to play "opponents", and this time they have also done their homework. This film has also become another masterpiece of director Guo Zijian.

So over the past 30 years, there have been countless examples of the two great singers in the music industry "Wang Jianwang" in movies, and from the perspective of film standards, at least most of them have been regarded as classics by the audience. It can be seen that although they are singers, their acting is also full of spark. With this alone, how can you not look forward to "Undercover Superstar"?

"Galaxy Tutorial School": Not good enough, but sincere

Reminder: This article is a serious spoiler!

In this summer season full of surprises, "Galaxy Tutoring School" has become the biggest seed and "bailout" work. The screening and publicity path of "Galaxy Tutoring School" is very similar to the biggest winner of last summer’s "I am not the God of Medicine". Two months before its release, "Galaxy Tutoring School" held an advanced screening on Father’s Day, and before its official release, it also launched several consecutive days of screening in many cities across the country. The advance and large-scale film reflects the creators’ confidence in the quality of the film, and they hope that through the accumulation of good reputation, they will usher in an explosion after the official release.

"Galaxy Tutorial School" poster. Originally set for July 26, but later raised to July 18

But there was no denying that many people did not trust the names of the director column "Deng Chao and Yu Baimei" at the beginning. After all, the embarrassment of the "Breakup Master" and "Villain Angel" co-directed by the two people was still lingering. Can "Galaxy Tutorial School" make the audience admire the director Deng Chao?

Big Dreams: Ma Fei’s Space Ideal

If it is simply summarized, "Galaxy Tutoring School" is a movie about education and fatherhood. But in detail, its timeline is quite long, spanning from 1990 to 2019, and it also contains three clear narrative threads. Each narrative thread will be integrated in the specific analysis below, involving very serious spoilers, please read carefully.

The first narrative line of the movie: In 2019, Ma Fei (played by Bai Yu) is the youngest astronaut in China. He follows the manned spaceship to the sky for a mission, but the spaceship is hit by a UFO and loses contact with the ground. The spaceship is in danger, and the astronauts may not be able to return. In the greatest desperate situation of life, Ma Fei recalls his most amazing father.

When an adult horse flies, he becomes an astronaut

The spaceship will definitely go back in the end. In the drama creation, the protagonist is in a dangerous situation, and what wants to highlight is the protagonist’s aura of saving from danger. And "Galaxy Tutoring School" also cleverly links this with China’s aerospace industry, patriotism, and the rise of a great power, giving the film the temperament of a gift film.

So, how did Ma Fei survive the danger?

In the critical moment, he remembered his father Ma Haowen (Deng Chao, played) once taught him, "Don’t admit defeat" and "always think", and how he escaped with the encouragement of his father during the catastrophic flood in 1998. In different time and space, his father’s teachings are just as effective, and Ma Fei solved the crisis of the spaceship.

  Ma Fei’s Space Rescue

It needs to be mentioned that the movie is very scribbled and endless when dealing with Ma Fei’s sky self-rescue. After a while, life and death are rendered there, but the process of Ma Fei getting out of the cabin is very easy.

Since Ma Haowen’s influence on Ma Fei is so great – astronauts can only carry one thing with them in space, and Ma Fei also took away the globe made of football that Ma Haowen gave him; why was Ma Fei’s family seat empty when the spacecraft set off? Why didn’t Ma Haowen personally show up to see the child off?

The football globe held by the young boy Ma Fei is the most important "token" between him and his father.

Because Ma Fei felt that Ma Haowen’s "dark history" would affect his bright future. This enters the second important main line of the story, the "dark history" of his father Ma Haowen.

The Harsh Reality: The History of Ma Haowen’s Misfortune

It is not so much a "black history" as a history of suffering.

Wei Wei is familiar with "Asian Heroes". On the eve of the 1990 Beijing Asian Games, the Torch Relay movement was carried out in Dongpei City (the fictional city in the movie). Ma Haowen, as the construction engineer of Dongpei Bridge, also became a torchbearer, and he would run across Dongpei Bridge with the torch. But in the live TV broadcast and the attention of many people, the Dongpei Bridge, which had not yet been opened to traffic, collapsed.

Ma Haowen used to be a successful engineer

Ma Haowen took the blame for the entire design institute and was imprisoned. His wife Xinyu (Ren Suxi, played) divorced him, and the teenager Ma Fei was also bullied by his peers. It was already 1997 when he was released from prison early after commuting his sentence. After his release, Ma Haowen was ridiculed, criticized and insulted by his former friends and colleagues. He struggled to find information, write a complaint letter, and go to court, but there was no way to appeal.

Ma Haowen has no way to appeal

This is the sharpest part of the movie, which contains various criticisms of reality: the sophistication, calculation, indifference, and cruelty of the human heart; the contempt and neglect of the rights and interests of the little people by the arrogant and rigid administrative organs, and the habitual "kicking of the ball" to their demands… The idealism portrayed in the movie may be illusory, but these real predicaments that Ma Haowen faces will make the audience feel the same: Why is it so difficult for an ordinary person to live calmly and with dignity?

Ma Haowen persisted for more than 20 years, and the case finally had a bright moment. When Ma Haowen came to Ma Fei’s base for the first time and told him the news, what made Ma Haowen cold and unexpected was that Ma Fei persuaded him to give up the appeal. Because Ma Fei’s leader (Wu Jing, played) told him that the astronaut would become the focus, his birth experience would be dug up, and Ma Haowen’s past would become some kind of "obstacle" to Ma Fei.

Ma Haowen told Ma Fei that he thought his education of Ma Fei was a success, but now he found that he failed. He did not expect his son to despise his insistence for more than 20 years – to restore his innocent reputation – for his own future and interests. Ma Fei is not unaware of the hardships and hardships he has endured for this.

Although this clue is not the main point of the movie – many viewers may have ignored it in tears, but in my opinion, it is the most colorful chapter of the whole movie. It is a hard core hidden under the positive energy and sensational shell of this movie. If you bite it, you will be stung.

It even deconstructs the educational idealism of the entire film: How are egoists who are filled with the adult world or delicate or crude are cultivated? Why can the quality-oriented education that Ma Haowen insists on not prevent Ma Fei from becoming selfish? Could it be that the grand cause is important, and the rights and interests of an ordinary person can be ignored?

These all point to deeper issues, and it’s all up to the heart to understand.

The ideal education: Galaxy cram school

How did Ma Haowen train Ma Fei to become an astronaut? This was the core narrative thread of the movie, which took the most time and was the most colorful. It was also the origin of the movie’s title.

When Ma Fei was young, his teachers thought that his brain was lacking. After Ma Haowen was imprisoned, Ma Fei was bullied, and his mother and stepfather were busy with business sending him to boarding school. Ma Fei became a runaway wild horse. He was the last in his class, read Jin Yong’s novels in class, often missed class, and was expelled by the director of the teaching department Yan (Li Jianyi, played).

When Ma Fei was expelled, it was the day Ma Haowen was released from prison. After his ex-wife begged Director Yan to no avail, Ma Haowen made a bet with Director Yan in front of many teachers and students. Director Yan said that if Ma Fei was in the top 10 of the final exam class, he would not be expelled. Ma Haowen said: Not the top 10 in the class, but the top 10 in the grade.

This moment is very hot, and it also constitutes the biggest suspense in the movie: Can Ma Haowen really make Ma Fei, the last in the class, enter the top 10 in the grade?

Director Yan represented the older generation of educators who had gone through years of hardship and changed their destiny through education. They believed in the set of exam-oriented education, where grades were supreme and the college entrance examination was fixed for life. Therefore, there were only a few things in Director Yan’s educational "arsenal": more homework + sticks + a sense of shame. He looked down on bad students and regarded Ma Fei as a thorn in his side.

Ma Haowen’s understanding of education was completely opposite to Director Yan’s. Although it was 1997, Ma Haowen’s education method was far ahead of that era, and even today, it is still ahead of its time.

It is first and foremost an encouraging education. It is not to inspire the child’s sense of shame (as Ma Fei’s mother said, "This child is like this, it is hopeless"), but to sincerely believe that the child is a genius. Ma Haowen told Ma Fei, "You are the smartest child on earth." When he said this, he was not perfunctory, but his eyes were full of light, full of trust and firmness, which allowed Ma Fei to build up his confidence. Even after betting that Ma Fei’s first exam was fifth from the bottom of the class, Ma Haowen praised his son as great, and improved compared with the original last.

Ma Haowen kept telling Ma Fei, "You are the smartest child on earth"

Ma Haowen did not urge Ma Fei to study much. When Ma Fei asked him whether to sleep or read a book, he let Ma Fei make his own decision. The school assigned too much homework, and he also let Ma Fei love to complete it or not. In Ma Haowen’s opinion, children’s interest in learning is the most important. At the stage of their strongest learning ability, the heavy learning load every day will make them lose interest in learning and feel tired.

Just like at the end of the college entrance examination, senior high school students were tearing books frantically, and the pieces of paper fell like snowflakes. Director Yan thought this was a kind of release for the children. Ma Haowen asked, If senior high school students can’t wait to tear books, do they really love learning? Do they still have enthusiasm for learning?

When Ma Haowen asked Ma Fei what his learning goal was, Ma Fei said, "Go to Tsinghua University and Peking University." Ma Haowen said no, this is the process, not the goal, and what he wants to do in the future is the answer. Then Ma Haowen said the "golden sentence", "Life is like archery, dreams are like archery targets. If you can’t even find the target, what’s the point of pulling your bow every day?"

Ma Haowen understands that the purpose of learning is not for the temporary college entrance examination, the child’s interests and goals are the end of learning. Therefore, even though the final exam is coming soon, he still takes the child to "skip class" (the leave was rejected by Director Yan) for half a month to go to the aerospace exhibition. The head teacher Xiao Gao (Wang Xi, played) said that the final exam is the most important moment in Ma Fei’s life. Ma Haowen said: No, there is no most important moment. The most important moments in his life should be evenly distributed every minute and every second of his day.

In the final exam, Ma Fei really entered the top 10 of the grade, and his love for aerospace also contributed to his dream of aerospace.

  defect

Obviously, in terms of differences in educational concepts, the film stood on Ma Haowen’s side. In several debates between Ma Haowen and Director Yan, Director Yan was defeated. The film also exaggerated Director Yan’s "unreasonable" and "deified" the feasibility of Ma Haowen’s education for Ma Fei.

In other words, the film’s discussion of exam-oriented education and quality-oriented education is simplified; its advocacy of quality-oriented education is too idealistic. The simplest reality is that the vast majority of civilian parents, without Ma Haowen’s ideas and insights, are exhausted, unlike Ma Haowen who could afford nearly 10,000 yuan of 586 computers for his children in the late 1990s, and have time to take their children on a half-month trip. And most children are also ordinary, and it is impossible to be like Ma Fei who can enter the top 10 of the grade in one semester without much study or review. In the case of uneven education quotas, exam-oriented education is still the best choice for ordinary families. You have to take the exam first to have more freedom of choice.

At the same time, the movie’s understanding of homework, exams, etc. is also very narrow. Ma Haowen’s comparison of steamed buns seems reasonable, but it is actually a little nonsense. Repeated steamed buns are indeed not delicious, but for most children with poor learning ability, they do have to be strengthened through repeated preview, review and homework to improve their understanding of knowledge. Although Ma Haowen has always wanted Ma Fei to learn ideas and methods, not just knowledge, knowledge is the premise of ideas and methods. The most basic knowledge is not firmly mastered and the foundation is not solid. What about further ideas and methods?

The director took it for granted too much, which determined that the influence of "Galaxy Tutoring School" on reality is very limited. It simply understands the current many educational issues, simply understands the differences in educational concepts, and does not touch the complex national conditions behind education in the slightest. It involves factors such as the duality of urban and rural areas, uneven educational quotas, cultural segregation of education, and difficulties in class mobility. On the contrary, there is such a suspicion that the educational problems with the nature of social problems are pushed to the parents, and become the parents’ personal concept problems.

Any parent who has been coerced into an education competition knows that there are many involuntary moments. As Ma Haowen’s ex-wife in the movie yelled, "Ma Fei is not your experiment." Few parents dare to experiment with their children’s future.

The essence of education is not as simple as believing in children or not

The conceptual level also affects the narrative level. Most of the characters in the movie are very flat, and they go to the end in one line, without any human hesitation. Like Ma Haowen, he is sure that his education of Ma Fei will be successful, but when he thinks of the situation where he was wronged and damaged, he has not worried about what kind of world Ma Fei will face when he grows up. The flatness of the characters serves that every turn and every touch in the narrative can reach the audience. Under the strong soundtrack, some parts of the movie are indeed tear-jerking, and it is very easy to cry, but it is over when the crying is over.

"Galaxy Tutoring School" could have been better. If the three threads interact with each other, rather than independently of each other, it can be a masterpiece to reach the real problem. As mentioned earlier, the second thread is the most colorful chapter in the movie. It is precisely because the director makes the three threads interact with each other. "The cruel reality" is dismantling the "grand dream" and "ideal education". The selfishness of the adult Ma Fei slaps Ma Haowen in the face, giving us a glimpse of something more powerful that affects education/reality. Although the director handles it this way, it may just be a simple suppression first and then a promotion, allowing the father and son to have a sublimation in their feelings.

  Better than sincerity

Even so, "Galaxy Tutoring School" is still the best film co-directed by Deng Chao and Yu Baimei so far. It has many flaws, but it also has a valuable advantage: seriousness/sincerity.

The film’s time span is very long, and it reflects many major historical nodes in the 1990s, such as the Beijing Asian Games in 1990, the Asian Football Cup in 1992, the return of Hong Kong in 1997, and the flood in 1998. The director cleverly strung the whole story through a few familiar songs in the 1990s, such as Wei Wei’s "Asian Majestic Wind", Mao Amin’s "Desire", Han Lei’s "Walk Around", Liu Huan’s "Bending Moon", Chen Ming’s "Happy Home", and Leslie Cheung’s "Love of the Year". There is a strong sense of nostalgia.

The film’s reflections on education are immature, but also very sincere. This part reflects the growing experience of Deng Chao and Yu Baimei, as well as their current experience as fathers educating their children. Therefore, the film has Deng Chao’s "class limitations". I remember he said before that he should not give children cram schools, but let children have a happy childhood. This concept is of course not wrong for people in Deng Chao’s class, but if it is promoted to everyone as a concept, it will reveal a childish side.

And sincerity is even more reflected in the father-son relationship in the movie. Although the movie uses educational reflection as the "bone", it uses the father-son relationship as the "flesh"; one of the movie’s slogans is, "Dedicated to the father, for the child". The movie also has the feelings of the two directors as sons/fathers, full of their love for their respective fathers and children. The father-son relationship fills most of the details in the movie, which is true, delicate, moving, and tear-jerking.

It should be admitted that Deng Chao as an actor is much more attractive than Deng Chao as a variety MC, and variety shows consume a lot of people’s knowledge of the actor Deng Chao. One of the fundamental reasons why this movie stands up is that Deng Chao convincingly portrays the great father Ma Haowen, and interprets his unconditional "trust" and "love" for his son. Many of Ma Haowen’s lines are very chicken soup and empty, but Deng Chao’s body, expression, eyes, and speech skills make these slightly empty things fall to the ground. Ma Haowen really "believes", and everything is natural.

Deng Chao’s behind- the-scene photos when taking close-up shots, his eyes are very infectious

The screenwriter also condensed too many dramatic and strong plots in Ma Haowen, such as selling blood, being beaten by gangsters in order to protect his son, and searching for children in the flood. Every point is very tearful. Ma Haowen once said to Ma Fei, "The bridge will collapse, but Dad will not collapse." He silently endured all the injustices and suppression that fate gave him, and then showed the best qualities that a father should have in front of his children: bravery, confidence, wisdom, and not admitting defeat.

During the flood, the moment when Ma Haowen and his son were separated was a moment when many viewers grabbed paper towels

As far as the author is concerned, I would give "Galaxy Tutoring School" 70 points. This is a film with obvious flaws, whether it is the scribbling of the space line, the deliberate pandering with a little fake space, the redundancy of the emotional line between Ma Haowen and Teacher Xiao Gao, which can be completely eliminated, or the exaggerated portrayal of Director Yan and the naive thinking about education issues. But we should also see how rare it is for a film of the size of "Galaxy Tutoring School" to be released smoothly in this not peaceful summer season. It is "playing tricks", but it is also "balancing": Deng Chao and Yu Baimei will be the type of directors that investors like the most, because they are "safe" and profitable.

It is not a shameful thing to be a "moderate-minded person" and produce commercial blockbusters that are seriously lacking in the market. On the contrary, it is very important for the Chinese film market – just like the summer season, you have to rely on "Galaxy Tutoring School" to "save the file". The ideal ambition of film critics should not be expected to be realized by a movie for themselves. What’s more, if you carefully consider Ma Haowen’s injustice line, combined with the "betrayal" of the adult Ma Fei to his father, you can still feel a lot of complexity about reality.

"The Galactic School" is not the best realist work of its kind, but it belongs to realism.
