CCTV News:The reporter learned from the Ministry of Public Security today (July 8) that by the end of June 2023, the number of motor vehicles in China had reached 426 million, with 513 million drivers. Statistics from the Ministry of Public Security show that in the first half of 2023, there were 16.88 million newly registered motor vehicles nationwide, up 1.9% year-on-year. 3.128 million new energy vehicles were registered nationwide, up 41.6% year-on-year, reaching a record high.

At present, there are 88 cities in China with more than 1 million cars, of which Beijing and Chengdu have more than 6 million cars and Chongqing, Shanghai and Suzhou have more than 5 million cars.

In terms of the number of drivers, by the end of June, the number of motor vehicle drivers in China had reached 513 million, of which 475 million were automobile drivers, accounting for 92.7% of the total number of drivers. In the first half of 2023, the number of newly licensed drivers nationwide was 11.91 million, an increase of 8% year-on-year.

In the first half of 2023, local public security traffic control departments actively promoted the online operation of traffic control services such as replacement of license plates "without leaving home". According to statistics, there were 58.33 million times of online business such as replacement of driver’s licenses and driving licenses and issuance of temporary license plates, a year-on-year increase of 30.9%.
